The Brussels Griffon Dog Breed

The Brussels Griffon Dog Breed is a terrier like dog named for the city of it’s origin – Brussels, Belgium.

This dog has a flat pug like face and wiry hair. A bit high strung, this dog can be a good apartment dog as it can get it’s exercise inside. They can be sensitive and picky and it is not guarenteed that they will get along with small children.

Appearance

The Brussles Griffon is a stocky dog with a long wiry coat.. The coat needs to be groomed frequently. They come in mixtures of black and tan, or red and tan are approx 8” and weigh between 6 to 12 pounds.

History

The Brussles Griffon is of the same breed as the Petit Griffon and Belgian Griffon. These dogs are a result of the breeding of Griffons (used as ratters) in the 1800’s with the pug. In Europe, the different varieties of Griffons are considered seperately, but in America the Griffon is one breed with the Belgian, Petit and Brussels being a variety of that breed.

Temperment

The Brussles Griffon can be high strung and moody, but also a nice lap dog that loves to be spoiled by it’s master. They are good for apartments as they get all the exercise they need by their lively indoor antics. They are easy to train, but may be difficult to housebreak. They make good watch dogs and can get a bit barky. The Brussels gets along with other dogs and cats but does not tolerate small children well.
