The Ryukin Goldfish

The Ryukin Goldfish is, in my opinion, the goldfish with the most pleasant looking face. No bulging eyes like the bubble eye or the telescope eye goldfishes and no bumpy growths like the oranda. It’s just a nice fish with a rounded body and long delicate fins. This fish comes in many colors and can be solid 1 color bicolor or calico.

The ryukin is of the carp group and therefore very hardy and well suited to both aquariums and garden ponds as they can be kept in temperatures near freezing. In the aquarium, you’ll want to keep the temps around 65 – 72 degrees F. Ryukin are gentle in nature and will work well in a tank with other fancy goldfish.

The ryukin is easy to care and only require proper water quality, food and space in order to live a long and healthy life. Goldfish are best kept in a short rectangular tank of 30 gallons or more where there is plenty of air surface. The tank should have adequate filtration without creating too much of a current. Keep water temp between 65 and 75 degrees F for most goldfish. Perform partial water changes as well as the appropriate tank maintenance monthly. Putting too many goldfish in a tank can have adverse affects on the fish’s health it is recommended that you have at least 7 gallons per fish.
