The Afghan Hound is a sight hound dog breed with long silky coat.
They are dignified and standoffish, and are very independent. They are not excessive barkers and best suited for larger yards. The Afghan hound can be dignified but also very happy when playing. Since they have a mind of their own they are not the easiest of dogs to train. They don’t really require a lot of and will reward you with their loyal companionship.

Afghans should be 24 – 28 inches in height. They should weigh between 45 to 60 pounds . They have a long and silky coat. They are gentle in appearanced with long ears and a sleek nose.
History
Afghans are an acient breed from Afghanistan. It has been around for thousands of years but not shared with Europeans or Americans until the 20th century. The breed was recognized by the AKC in the 1930’s.
Medical Concerns
The Afghan Hound has few health issues. Allergies and cancer are the biggest concerns but this breed is particularly healthy. The afghan hound can live up to 14 years.
Grooming and Care
Afghans require specific grooming due to their hair. The fine hair can easily become matted and requires daily brushing. Other than that this breed only needs grooming typical of any dog.
