Aquarium Stands are Practical Pieces of Furniture

Aquarium stands can be beautiful pieces of furniture as well as serve the useful purpose of holding up your fish tank.

A fish tank stand can be as simple as a plain metal stand or an elaborate case that serves as a focal piece in your living room.

When shopping for aquarium stands, it’s most important to make sure it will hold your aquarium. Most tanks and stands are sold together so you know they fit, but if you are buying piecemeal you will need to know the length and width of your tank so you can match it to a stand – or the gallons (i.e a 30 gallon long or 25 gallon etc…) as most fish tank stands are sold to those specs as well. Of course if you are building a stand yourself, take care to make sure that it is sturdy enough to hold the weight of your tank when it is full.

You won’t have to worry about this with a manufactured stand as they are made to hold the weight of the size tank they are built for.

Additionally, you will want to make sure that it will fit in the spot that you have chosen for your tank so it is a good idea to measure the space and bring along a tape measure when shopping for aquarium stands so you can insure the piece you choose will actually fit.

Also, take in to consideration the furniture you already have in the room – if you are putting it in a living room with all oak furniture you will probably want to pick a light wood stand but if you have a sleek modern look in the room a black stand or even one of the new chrome stands might look nice.

Finally when thinking about buying aquarium stands consider all the equipment and accessories that goes with your tank. Some fish tank stands are built like cabinets and can hide all the pumps and filters that go with your tank. You can use the extra cabinet area to store fish food, nets, test kits and accessories and have all your “fish” stuff in 1 spot!
